Of course, you should be calling your roofer at least once a year for an inspection and preventative maintenance, but there are other times you may need roof repair. Depending on your roof’s material and the age, you may see different issues crop up. If you want to take care of an issue before it does much damage, you’ll want to know these signs that you need to call a roof repair company.
Misaligned or Crooked Shingles
This can happen with both asphalt and tile roofing. Your shingles should form a straight line across your roof. Each tile or shingle should be the same height. If they’re not, you’re likely looking at some sort of issue. With asphalt, it’s likely the shingle isn’t properly affixed. The most common reason is improper installation, which may include not enough nails in the shingle strip or the installer using a nail gun with the wrong air pressure causing the nail to blow through the shingle. With tile, either the installation was done poorly or the tile is broken.
Bumpy or Wavy Roof
Do you notice one part of your roof looks smooth while another part appears to have something beneath it? If your asphalt roofing was installed directly on the roof deck (with underlayment), it should be flat. If it looks wavy you may have water beneath the shingles that’s causing the issue. If neglected, it will likely turn into water damage in your attic before long.
Most people realize that a brown spot on their ceiling is a sign of a roof leak, however, there are many other signs of water damage that’s not always associated with a roof leak. Did you know that bubbling or peeling paint can be a sign of water damage from a roof leak? In fact, some bubbling paint can actually hold water! Other signs include warped baseboards because water follows the path of least resistance which often means through your walls where it collects behind your baseboards. If there is no other logical reason for peeling or bubbling paint or your warped base boards, call your roof repair company for an estimate.
There are countless other signs, but the best advice is to have a roofer whom you trust inspect your roof on a regular basis. That can mean once or twice a year depending on your roofing material and the age of the shingles. By doing this, they’ll likely catch minor problems before they become big repair bills.
