We’ve talked some about of the roof gypsies that flood our area after a hurricane. They show up set up a P.O. Box, canvas impacted neighborhoods, offer deals and take money, either never completing the job or doing sub-par work. There are also the “roofers” who really are based here but really don’t qualify as roofing contractors at all. These people are handyman services with some roofing experience and a friend who helps them get a permit (assuming they get a permit). Either way, these are the types of roofers you want to avoid!
Check their License
All roofing contractors in Florida are required to have a license. Florida makes it easy for you to research whether a contractor has a license at all through their website. Use it to look up yours. If you notice the license is new, don’t be afraid to ask questions. The last thing you want is a roofer who comes, sets up shop, does a poor job only to disappear when the work is over so they don’t have to honor your workmanship warranty.
There are so many places you can see unbiased reviews today. From the Better Business Bureau site to Google and Facebook. Read the reviews. Remember that you can’t please everyone all the time but most customers should be satisfied or highly satisfied. You also want to take note of how a company deals with complaints or issues. This will tell you a lot about their integrity and how they may react if you have a complaint.
Check Their Industry Involvement
Are they trained and certified by any manufacturers? Are they members of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA)? The NRCA has stringent membership requirements including ongoing training, experience and a strong reputation. If a manufacturer is certified with one or more manufacturers, your chances of a quality roofing installation (no matter what brand you choose) goes up significantly.
